A mystery trio who surprise members of the public with gifts have struck in Ham — making a dream come true for a teenage musician.

Budding songster Lucas Porteous, of Perryfield Way, could barely contain his delight after being given a free electric guitar and amp courtesy of ‘The Kindness Offensive’.

The altruistic trio, who have appeared on internet sites like YouTube, contact companies and convince them to send them valuable items.

They recently surprised a family, with seven children, with a day’s training with theMoscow State Circus, plus tickets to see the Sound of Music in London’s West End.

Lucas’s mum, Merrellene, stumbled across them by chance while looking online to see if her advert to get rid of an old exercise bike had been posted.

As she typed, a notice popped up saying Free electric guitar and amp to be given to deserving boy aged eight to 14.

“The ad went on to ask if you were or knew of any boys of that age who might deserve to be given this guitar,” she said.

“It just so happened that I knew of such a boy, so I nominated Lucas through theGumtree site.”

Lucas, 14, is passionate about music and has just finished presenting a show on you radio station Change FM.

The station is run as part of the Richmond Summer University scheme and aims to give a voice to young people from the Ham Estate and surrounding areas.

According to his mum, having the instrument will give Lucas the chance not only to develop his musical talent, but will also encourage him to show similar generosity.

“We don’t hear about random niceness nearly enough, and for it to happen to him, I think shocked him a bit,” she said.

Thrilled Lucas added: “I can’t believe people I didn’t even know just helped me out. I think they are awesome.”
